Canyon City Animal Hospital

Meet Mocha! She is a 10 year old Husky mix who came to see Dr. Buntain when her owner noticed that her appetite had decreased. After doing blood work, Dr. Buntain saw that her glucose levels were very high, indicating that she is diabetic. Diabetes is a disease in which the body’s ability to produce or respond to the hormone insulin is impaired, resulting in abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates and elevated levels of glucose in the blood and urine. We decided to hospitalize her while we administered fluids and insulin until her glucose levels were back to normal. After about a week, her levels were stable and she was able to go home. She is doing great! We can’t wait to see her again!

Hunters Canyon Animal Hospital

Meet Callie! Callie is an adorable Cavalier King Charles! Callie has been coming to our practice for almost a year! She was diagnosed with Cushings Disease. Cushings disease results when the body is exposed to excess cortisol, a hormone produced by the adrenal glands. With regular monitoring and a balanced medicine routine you can manage the disease. Callie was doing great after treatment but recently came in not feeling very well. Turns out Callie had ingested about five ounces of chocolate! As you know, this can be very toxic to pets. Dr. Hossalla and the team were able to get her back to tip top shape with a couple of days of I.V. fluids, treatment and TLC. We are happy to report that Callie is back home with her family! (Eating just dog food, of course!) : )
